Our firm successfully resolved a catastrophic medical malpractice case involving a preventable brain injury during surgery. During what should have been a routine cochlear implant procedure, the surgeon disconnected and tied off a functioning VP shunt without first confirming whether the shunt was working or obtaining informed consent for the procedure.
As a result, our client developed acute hydrocephalus requiring emergency brain surgery, multiple shunt revisions, prolonged hospitalization, infection, severe chronic pain, and significant vision loss.
Before the surgery, our client lived independently, worked, drove, and cared for herself. After the injury, she lost her peripheral vision, could no longer drive or work, and was forced to move back in with her family because of her permanent neurological injuries and chronic pain.
Through settlement, we secured compensation to help provide for future medical care, pain management, lost earning capacity, and long-term financial support.
