What Happened
Our firm successfully resolved a catastrophic medical malpractice case after a pain management physician punctured a patient's spinal cord during cervical facet joint injections, causing permanent neurological injury.
The evidence showed the physician performed cervical injections under sedation, preventing the patient from warning him of spinal cord pain during the procedure. The physician also failed to properly use fluoroscopy and failed to use contrast dye to confirm safe needle placement before injecting medication into the spinal cord.
Immediately after the procedure, our client developed severe pain, numbness, weakness, and loss of function in her dominant right arm. MRI imaging confirmed traumatic spinal cord injury and hemorrhage within the cervical cord.
As a result of the injury, our client permanently lost the use of her right arm, became unable to continue her career as a medical coder, and now requires assistance with daily activities and ongoing medical care.
