Our firm successfully resolved a wrongful death and medical malpractice case involving the preventable death of a young mother after hospital staff failed to recognize and prevent a dangerous blood clot during hospitalization.
While hospitalized, our client was identified as being at high risk for developing a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism. Despite multiple risk factors and warning signs, appropriate blood clot prevention measures were not properly implemented, monitored, or enforced. Nurses also failed to timely recognize and report symptoms consistent with a developing DVT.
Shortly after discharge, the young mother collapsed outside the hospital and died from a massive pulmonary embolism caused by untreated blood clots in her legs. She was only 21 years old and left behind two young children.
Through litigation, we secured compensation on behalf of her children and family for the devastating loss of their mother and sole caregiver.
