What Happened
Our firm successfully resolved a medical malpractice case after a patient underwent an unnecessary and improperly performed ankle surgery that resulted in permanent disability and multiple additional surgeries.
The evidence showed the patient initially sought treatment for what was believed to be a severe ankle sprain. Instead of conservative treatment, the podiatrist performed an aggressive surgical procedure that involved cutting through major weight-bearing bones in the ankle. Experts later concluded the procedure was unnecessary and performed below the standard of care.
Following the surgery, the bones failed to heal properly because of poor alignment and unstable fixation. The patient ultimately underwent multiple revision surgeries and eventually required a permanent ankle fusion after the prior procedures failed.
As a result of the injury, our client suffers chronic pain, limited mobility, difficulty walking, and permanent restrictions affecting her career and daily life.
